Cate Huguelet’s work has appeared in publications like The New York Times, Saveur, Time Out Chicago, Hemispheres, the Guardian, the Chicago Sun-Times, and Draft.

Over the last decade, Cate has visited nearly 30 countries and explored much of the US. Her career as a travel and food writer began in 2004, when she left her home on Chicago’s south side for an internship at The Dubliner magazine. What began as a three-month stint in Ireland stretched into five years abroad, during which she lived in Dublin, Galway, and Cork, and sampled the sights and tastes of Europe at every opportunity. A move to Knoxville, Tennessee in 2010 initiated a new adventure: getting to know the American South (and uncovering a latent love for burnt ends and pimento cheese). She returned to Chicago in 2013, and presently spends her free time reacquainting herself with the city’s cultural offerings, as well as its taquerias.

Cate has an MA in writing from the National University of Ireland Galway and a PhD in English from University College Cork. In addition to writing about travel and food, she is also interested in photography (all photos on this site are her own), fiction, and poetry; her poems have appeared in Poetry Ireland Review, THE SHOp, the Stinging Fly, and Southword.
